Some still idolize Tirena of the Rock, who used blood magic against the Qunari during the Steel Age. They say she cut her flesh on the shore of Marnas Pell as the dreadnoughts sailed in, turned her spells against their crews, and boiled the very blood in their veins. A terrifying display, to be sure, but against Qunari? It only made them more determined when they besieged the ports of Carastes.

You quote the example of the lovers Crescens and Seraphinian. Yes, Seraphinian offered his own blood to cure Crescens of her wasting disease, and Crescens lived a long life. But if the noblest use of blood magic still calls for the death of a good man, is that not enough reason to reconsider?
Blood AmnioteThis foul thing resembles a slithering clot of blood the size of a wagon, the vague imprints of human skulls pressing outwards from its depths. Blood amniotes are found in the caverns beneath mass graves or brutal battlefields. The sheer amount of blood spilled in such places combines with the despair infusing the region and negative energy, resulting in the creation of a mindless bloody ooze, driven only by the urge to devour and reproduce. The very touch of the blood amniote causes traumatic hemorrhaging, and these creatures can pull spilled blood into their bodies to heal themselves. The sight of a blood amniote pulsing as streams of blood fly through the air and into its gelatinous bulk is not one forgotten by even the most jaded adventurer. A blood amniote weighs 5,000 pounds and is approximately 10 feet in diameter. A create greater undead spell cast at 19th caster level can create a blood amniote: at least one hundred freshly slain humanoid corpses must be bled in the ritual to create a blood amniote.
Hargins differ in terms of their alignments, but most have acquisitive personalities. A hargin typically wishes to gain some sort of power, prestige or fame in their humanoid form, or barring that, get rich. Some hargins turn to performance, others to theft, and others seduce their way into the households of the nobility. Although hargins are somewhat naïve, they are charming and capable, and have a handful of magical tricks to assist them in either social climbing or larceny. They spend almost all of their lives in disguise, returning to their monstrous forms only in order to defend themselves. Hargins are more likely to view other members of their own species as threats than allies. Hargins are sexually compatible with the humanoids they mimic, and some fey or aberrant blooded sorcerers have a hargin ancestor somewhere on their family tree.
While Davoth was reduced to nothing but a sphere containing his essence, he continued to whisper his influence to the corrupted people of his realm. Ultimately, he would be restored to a physical body by the Doom Slayer through the use of the Maykr device known as the Luminarium, as part of the latter's plan to stop Hell's invasion for good. It is stated by the intern that the only way to truly defeat the Dark Lord (and by extension Hell) was to restore his physical form and then kill him. When resurrected, he appeared in the form of the Slayer. The Slayer tried to execute him there and then, but Davoth informed the Slayer that no blood can be spilled in the Luminarium.[4] Summoning a portal, Davoth told the Doom Slayer that he would be waiting in the city of Immora. The intern would later inform the Doom Slayer that should he destroy Davoth, every demon outside of Hell would be destroyed due to the connection between Davoth and his subjects.
Betrayed by his own creations, stripped of most of his power and even name, Davoth was imprisoned for millennia which made him swear vengeance against his servants and everything he created. Malevolent and enraged, he shows no mercy towards others and is fully willing to kill and destroy other worlds. Despite his negative traits, Davoth is also very honorable and is able to show respect to others as is shown during his confrontation with the Doom Slayer, where he fought honestly and revealed his story and the truth about how everything started, as well as the reasons for his actions. After being defeated by his creation, he accepts his fate with dignity and only asks the Slayer if he had anything to say to him, his creator, before he struck him down.
Davoth is battled at the center of Immora, piloting a red mech suit resembling a cross between a Marauder and the Praetor Suit -- he may be thought of as a Super-Marauder. He has five health bars, changing phases when the first and third bars are depleted; the phases are also indicated by Davoth slamming his shield on the ground and changing the surroundings. Like most foes in the game, his mech suit will become visibly damaged as the battle progresses, but this has no effect on its performance.
Davoth's suit wields a large energy shield that renders him effectively immune to direct damage. However, when he tries to slash the Slayer, his eyes will flash green - attacking him during this window will stun him and provide a few seconds to deal damage with impunity. The stun duration can be extended by hitting him with the Sentinel Hammer while he's stunned. Staying close to Davoth will greatly increase the chances of him using an attack that leaves an opening. When one of his health bars is depleted, the game will provide a prompt to attack the staggered boss (similar to the prompt for a Glory Kill) and advance the fight.
The Dark Lord will heal himself every time he lands a direct physical attack on the Slayer - his projectiles and summoned demons will not heal him. The amount of health he restores is roughly proportional to the damage dealt by the attack, being represented by the Doom Slayer releasing yellow-colored health pickups that Davoth immediately absorbs. On the other hand, Zombies will spawn around the edges of the arena to let the Slayer replenish resources.

Meanwhile, a thief named Jack Caulker is approached to be a guide for a giant who pulls a god's ship across the land. The thief and cutthroat is in awe of John Anchor, and wants to get his hands on the pouch of soul-pearls the man has. The god Cospinol is searching for Carnival, daughter of Ulcis, who drank her father's blood, thus killing him -the blood of Ulcis will give him the strength to leave the rotting skyship that has been his prison for thousands of years, ever since the seven brothers were kicked out of Heaven. When Anchor befriends a group of tribal warriors, however, Caulker decides to betray the giant. While this was an interesting story and really fun in terms of Anchor, I found that the end use of the thief and the tribe of warriors was wasted. Unless they come back in the third book, their deaths were meaningless and could have been achieved much earlier in the story.
But it turns out all of this was a trap by Minoa, after all. I'm a little disappointed in Hasp, who is said to be a brilliant tactician. He didn't see the trap, in that a huge portal to Hell could be opened by all the blood spilled here when Dill razes Minoa's army, though the demons from Hell take many lives anyway. I do wonder if the demons had real blood to shed, though. I suppose if they subsisted on blood, the way Alice did, that it would spill out when they were killed -tens of thousands of them. And as Alice points out, anybody who could possibly harm Minoa are all gathered in one location, where a dozen Arconites jump out of the waiting portal -the cliff-hanger ending. 2ff7e9595c
